ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze special histopathological characteristics of melanocytic nevi and their associations with age, gender, anatomical locations and pathological subtypes. Methods Clinical and histopathological data were collected from 1 011 patients with melanocytic nevi, who visited Beijing Hospital from January 2005 to January 2019,and analyzed retrospectively.Statistical analysis was carried out by using chi-square test for comparing enumeration data, and t test for comparing measurement data. Results Among the 1 011 patients with melanocytic nevi, the age at the clinic visit was 40.90 + 19.19years,and there were 289 males and 722 females.Lesional (biopsy) sites included the trunk (402 cases,39.8%),face and neck (268 cases,26.5%),extremities (138 cases,13.6%),hands and feet (133 cases,13.2%),scalp (53 cases,5.2%) and vulva (17 cases,1.7%).Pathological subtypes included intradermal nevus (580 cases,57.4%),compound nevus (333 cases,32.9%) and junctional nevus (98 cases,9.7%).Among special histopathological characteristics, neuralization and adipose cell hyperplasia were observed in 172 (17.0%) and 155 (15.3%) cases respectively, and the prevalence of neuralization and adipose cell hyperplasia was significantly higher in female patients than in male patients, higher in elderly patients than in young patients, and higher on the scalp than on the other sites (all P < 0.05);vascular proliferation was observed in 313 (31.0%) cases, and more commonly occurred on the scalp than on the other sites (P<0.05);nevus cells distributed along the hair follicles/sebaceous glands were observed in 502 (49.7%)cases,and more commonly seen on the face and neck than on the other sites (P < 0.05);nevus cell lysis occurred in 203 (20.1%) cases, and fissures were observed in 384 (38.0%).All the above histopathological characteristics were more frequently observed in the intradermal nevus subtype than in the compound nevus subtype (all P<0.05).Nevus cells distributed along the blood vessels were observed in 20 (2.0%) cases, and more commonly seen on the extremities than on the trunk, hands and feet (P < 0.05),as well as in the compound nevus subtype than in the intradermal nevus subtype (P < 0.05).Conclusions There are many special histopathological characteristics in melanocytic nevi, such as neuralization, adipose cell hyperplasia, vascular proliferation, and nevus cells distributed along the hair follicles/sebaceous glands, which are associated with patients' age, gender, lesional locations and histopathological subtypes.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between histopathological subtype and the probability of inguinal lymph node metastasis (ILNM) in patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). The clinical records of 198 consecutive patients with PSCC were analyzed retrospectively. Primary lesions were reevaluated according to the 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) histopathological classification. We retrieved the clinicopathological factors from the medical records including age, clinical lymph node stage, pathological tumor stage, lymphatic invasion, and nerve invasion. Uni- A nd multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to explore the risk factors of ILNM. Multivariate analyses identified clinical lymph node stage (P = 0.000), pathological tumor stage (P = 0.016), histologic grade (P = 0.000), and risk group of histological subtypes (P = 0.029) as independent predictors for ILNM. Compared with the low-risk group of PSCC subtypes, the intermediate-(HR: 3.66, 95% CI: 1.30-10.37, P = 0.021) and high-risk groups (HR: 28.74, 95% CI: 2.37-348.54, P = 0.008) were significantly associated with ILNM. In conclusion, the histopathological subtype of the primary lesion is a significant predictor for ILNM in patients with PSCC.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of children with medulloblastoma (MB). Methods The correlations amongst MB histopathological subtype, age at diagnosis, gender, primary tumor locations, relapsed tumor and relapsed tumor locations were analyzed retrospectively in 83 children who were diagnosed as MB by histopathology subtypes from February 2012 to April 2015 in Beijing Shijitan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical Uni-versity.The data was conducted by using SPSS 22.0 statistical software. Results Among the 83 cases (53 boys and 30 girls),there were 14 patients younger than 3 years old (9 boys and 5 girls)and 69 patients (44 boys and 25 girls)ol-der than 3 years old, including 28 relapsed (19 boys and 9 girls)and 55 non -relapsed cases (34 boys and 21 girls). The median age was 80.2 (13.1 -184.7)months at diagnosis.Of these 83 cases,48.2% (40 /83 cases)was classic medulloblastoma (CMB)(2 cases less than 3 years old),24.1 % (20 /83 cases)was desmoplastic /nodular medullo-blastoma (DMB)(6 cases less than 3 years old),12.1 % (10 /83 cases)was large cell/anaplastic medulloblastoma (LC /AMB)(1 case less than 3 years old),3.6% (3 /83 cases)was extensive nodular medulloblastoma (MBEN)(1 case less than 3 years old),and 12.1 % (10 /83 cases)(3 cases less than 3 years old)was mixed subtype. The rela-tionships between age at diagnosis and histopathological subtype, gender and primary tumor location were all statistically significant (χ2 =0.014,0.013,all P <0.05).Conclusions The incidence of boys with MB is higher than girls.CMB is the main histopathologic subtype in children over 3 years old.The primary tumor location involving the cerebellar vermis or cerebellar vermis and the fourth ventricle is higher in girls with MB.The primary tumor location involving the fourth ventricle, the fourth ventricle and other parts of the central nervous system,Cerebellar vermis and other parts of the central nervous system or other parts of the central nervous system is higher in boys with MB.
